The Neurology Department in MediClinic is composed by expertized physicians that study and diagnose the therapy of neurologic, neuromuscular and psychiatric pathologies in adults and children.

Electroencephalogram
The EEG signal is registered mainly with electrodes placed along the patient’ scalp and fixed with a neoprene elastic cap. During the registration of the track, last lasts about 20 minutes, the physician asks to the patient to do some actions, like opening and closing the eyes, to breathe deeply for some minutes (hyperpnoea) or watching a lamp that emits flashes (Intermittent Photic Stimulation). These operations allow to verify the correct responsiveness of the brain structures. The EEG does not require a particular preparation for the patient.
Electromyography
It is a clinical-instrumental exam to diagnose the neuromuscular diseases. It is perform by a neurologist that has competences in regards to the neuromuscular system anatomy, physiology and clinic; the physician has to be skilled with devices and electric techniques and helped by a neurophysiology technician. The aim is to study the muscles functionality with a needle electrode that has to be inserted in the muscle itself: the exam enables distinguish between a muscular or a nervous pathology. In case of a nervous pathology, it allows to locate the involved nervous structure (nerves, plexus, nerve root, etc.). The modern technology make available small single-use sterilized needle electrodes that enable to perform the exam safely. Infants, children, adults and elderly can perform this exam.
Other treatments
MediClinic offers some other treatments at the Neurology Department: electroneurography, somato-sensory evoked potentials (auditive and visual), the study of the vegetative nervous system (neurovascular vegetative test), the sympathetic skin response test (SSR) and the repetitive stimulation test.
