Traditional Radiology
Traditional radiology represents a very important step in the diagnosis of different conditions. It is based on ionizing radiation (X-rays) and has some contraindications due to the potentially harmful on the human body. However, nowadays, modern radiology technologies use low doses of radiations, obtaining excellent diagnostic results.
Who should schedule this appointment?
At MediClinic it is possible to perform X-ray tests for every part of the body: from chest to lower and upper limbs, together with complex anatomical districts such as the ankle and spine. At MediClinic it is also possible to analyze the degree of spine curvature in case of scoliosis (in particular at the thoracolumbar level), or the antalgic posture that the body develops after a trauma, as in the case of whiplash.
For many conditions, in particular the ones involving the musculoskeletal system, the radiological examination represents the first level of study to avoid subjecting the patient to unnecessary tests. For example, conditions such as knee osteoarthritis or shoulder periarthritis can be correctly examined obtaining all the necessary information.
What to expect?
The radiology technologist assists the patient throughout the entire procedure, ensuring that the exam is performed in compliance with the safety standards for all those involved. Once the patient has entered the MediClinic radiology area, the staff verifies the type of examination that needs to be performed through our computer system, avoiding any error. The patient’s state of health is also ascertained and the information necessary to carry out the examination in total safety are collected. The patient is asked to uncover the part of the body that needs to be examined and is accompanied to the room where the radiological table is located; if necessary the technologist helps the patient to correctly position the body to obtain the necessary views. The staff is committed to meeting all the patient’s needs during the examination. The duration of the exam changes depending on the area that needs to be studied and the amount of projections necessary for an in-depth analysis. For obvious reasons, the goal of both the specialist and the technologist is to limit the patient’s exposure to radiation as much as possible.
Why choose MediClinic?
The medical equipment used at MediClinic is among the most technologically advanced currently available. It allows a reduction of about 30% of the radiation dose on tissues compared to less advanced devices. The available devices allow the collection of multiple images of bone segments, which are subsequently synthetised into a single image for a better evaluation by Orthopedics and Physical medicine specialists.
The dedicated staff (radiology technologists) coordinates a codified procedure together with the radiologist to optimize these performances. MediClinic has chosen to develop the images exclusively in digital format, storing them on a CD-Rom, to have a lower environmental impact, offer a healthier workplace for operators and take up a minimal amount of space.
