Dermatology surgery
Dermatology surgery is performed once the diagnosis of any skin formation has highlighted the need for surgical treatment. The patient is referred to the surgical treatment path by the dermatologist specialists. At MediClinic the dermatological surgery service is managed in continuity with the dermatology clinic, therefore the diagnosis and surgical treatment are performed by the same physician.
Patients undergo surgery in modern operating rooms with top-notch technological equipment and efficient protocols that allow the specialist to perform the procedure in complete safety and efficiency.
What to expect?
Dermatology surgery is performed with the primary aim of radically eliminating neoformations while preserving the surrounding skin.
Depending on the clinical case, treatments can be destructive or aimed at the histopathological examination. In the first case, the surgeon treats the formations with an electric scalpel, an instrument that quickly removes the lesion often with better aesthetical results because there is no need to apply sutures. The complete removal of the lesion does not provide any sample to be examined; for this reason, when opting for this clinical path, it is mandatory that a dermatologic diagnosis of the lesion has already been achieved. On the other hand, when neoformation is of doubtful origin, the classic surgical treatment is preferred, i.e. cutting the skin and then applying stitches or rebuilding it with skin grafts or local flaps, depending on the area affected by the formation, its size, and its nature. This is because, depending on the degree of clinical severity of the lesion, removal with higher safety margins may be necessary. The aggressiveness of skin neoformations is in fact different according to their histological nature.
The Dermatology Surgery service performs, with innovative techniques, also small cosmetic procedures such as blepharoplasty, liposuction or scar correction. The absorbable thread technique is also available for the correction of imperfections.
Why choose MediClinic?
At MediClinic, our dermatology specialists are characterized by solid surgical skills and experience. Skin formations are therefore treated in their entirety and the patient is followed from diagnosis to final treatment by the same specialist except from clinical cases that require the support of the plastic surgeon.
The dermatology surgeon combines the experience of the clinical practice with the manual skills of surgery, both in the dermatology field and in cosmetic medicine. In particular, the manual skills acquired in the surgical field are applied to dermocosmetic treatments such as the implant of fillers and other techniques.
